How to Look Better When Illness Makes You Feel Bad
There’s no doubt about it, illness is one thing that makes you feel and look bad. And the worst part is that you don’t really feel like doing anything about it. But when you look better you know that you’ll also feel a little better, so what can you do to improve your appearance that doesn’t take up much energy?
When people have to be in the hospital for any length of time, the nurses often encourage them to get dressed, so that psychologically they will begin to feel better. So one thing you can do to look and feel better is to get dressed. If you cannot get into day clothes, there are many pretty pj’s or night attire on the market. Why not make it a fun one with cartoon characters? You may decide to go bright pink or some gorgeous shade of blue. Color will cheer you up and simply feeling a bit more cheerful will make you look better.
Another very simple thing to do is dab on some lipstick; before you know it, you may decide to add some rouge to color those pale cheeks too. If this is beyond you physically, ask a friend to help. Rubbing in moisturizer and doing your nails doesn’t take up much energy and may even help to pass away those boring hours when no one comes to visit. You may as well do that as nothing.
When illness attacks the body hair usually suffers, but having it cut will prevent it becoming long and lank. Hairdressers often do home visits and some even attend hospital patients. If there are none in your area, you may be able to prevail on a friend or family member to snip those tresses off or just cut your fringe. You’ll feel so much better with that hair out of your eyes.
Many ill people have flowers brought to them by friends and family. One way to cheer yourself up would be to do your hair and put a flower in it. This will being a smile to your friends faces too.
If you are in the hospital, you will be well washed, but if you are sick at home, sometimes it’s easier to do without that daily shower. But hygiene plays a big part in health and when you take a shower or bath, you’ll feel lots better. Showering will restore a bit of circulation to your skin and help flush out the toxins.
Drinking plenty of water will help in this aspect of your recovery too. Try and exercise if you are allowed to. Even a gentle walk around the room will help to keep your strength up and make you feel better.
